Service to our country brings sacrifices that extend far beyond the battlefield. Veterans step into the role of protectors, carrying the weight of long deployments, missed family milestones, and the immense responsibility of safeguarding others. Their sacrifices often reach beyond what the eye can see, leaving behind invisible wounds—trauma, anxiety, depression, and the lingering effects of their experiences.
These unseen scars remind us that the cost of service doesn’t end when the uniform is hung up. As a mother of a veteran, I’ve witnessed the profound impact of these sacrifices, and I’ve learned that healing is a shared journey. It’s up to all of us to do better—by offering understanding, providing resources, and creating spaces where veterans feel seen and supported. Honoring their sacrifices means walking alongside them as they work toward recovery and wholeness, ensuring they never face these battles alone.
We must also recognize the incredible resilience of our veterans. Despite their struggles, they show courage and strength in rebuilding their lives. Many find ways to serve their communities in new capacities, inspiring others through their perseverance. Supporting their journey isn’t just about acknowledging their pain—it’s about celebrating their growth and the hope they bring to others through stories of survival and transformation.
I am deeply proud of my daughter’s resilience in the face of these invisible wounds. Despite the challenges she has endured, she continues to rise with strength and determination, confronting her struggles and never giving up. Her journey of healing inspires me daily, showing that even in the midst of pain, growth and hope are possible. Watching her navigate life with courage reminds me of the incredible power of perseverance and the unbreakable spirit of those who serve.
To all the Veterans out there- friends, family, and my unknown protectors, I appreciate what you have given and continue to give.
Blessings,
Felisa
